The incident took place Jan. 16 when the child was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital for an unknown medical problem. Tests showed that the child had the drug suboxone in its system, the newspaper said.

That's when the Department of Children and Families investigators stepped in and on Jan. 21 visited the home and found two vials of the drug on the kitchen floor belonging to the child's father, Matthew Hilton of New Haven, The Hour said.

The Norwalk Police Department’s Special Victim’s Unit issued a warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody on Tuesday, Feb. 6 and charged with risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment and violation of a restraining order, The Hour reported.

He is being held on $75,000 bond.

Police said that the child has recovered.

Suboxone is used to treat adults who are dependent on opioids.
